EVOLS
The Ephemeral
Vinyl  12”
edited by Black Train Records
2025

The fourth album by Evols "The Ephemeral" delivers with its music exactly what its title promises: an end in itself, with its own chronology and an expiration-date anomaly. The new album by Evols — the fourth full-length release in the Porto-based collective’s discography — expands their psychedelic sound into more ornate territories, while keeping simple progressions and pop hooks as the compositional launching point.

Across eight tracks, The Ephemeral synthesizes multiple moments and aesthetics, crafting a musical hermeneutics where references range from disco to the earliest pop moments of rock music, paving the way for no wave riffs to be elevated by Rodrigo Amado’s saxophone or the velvety vocals of Sara Macedo and Calcutá.

OH, AMERICA!
[Ongoing]

A new body of work with images taken in the USA. This series is a reflection upon the ideia of the classical american dream. This work reflects an intrinsic fascination with american photography and the influence of photographers like Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Robert Adams, etc. This series is the realization of the harsh reality of a fractured country and torn landscapes, a land where money is king and hope is just a mere dream.

I WOULD RUN THIS WAY FOREVER AND OVER AGAIN

[2022]

One of my most recent photobooks aims to be a delicate poem reflecting upon personal family, youth, beauty and the tender fragility of life. This work was published as a monograph by Lebop and  the series was first exhibited at Salut ao Monde (Porto) and 119Marvila Studios (Lisbon).

THE DEW OF LITTLE THINGS
[2016]

A group of imagens taken in Lebanon. This series was first exhibited in the context of the BES Photo Award in CCB, Lisbon. Published as a monograph by french publisher Editions Loco., this work has been widely shown in private and public galleries like CAAA, Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Galeria Pedro Oliveira.

THROUGH THE PALE DAWN

[2015]

All images taken in North Korea, one of most reclusive countries in the world. This series is a reflection upon the possibility of creating images while merely scratching the surface of a distant and foreign country. In an attempt to avoid the sterile and typical images that usually depict North Korea, the images aim at portraying a more quiet and reserve portrait of life in this nation. This work was first shown on Museu da Electricidade, Fundação EDP (Lisbon) and was published as a monograph by french editor Editions Loco.

A CRACK ON A SIDEWALK

[Ongoing]

A new body of work with images taken in Serbia and Bosnia. This new work aims to reflect upon the burden of a history of conflict through its landscapes.

IN PROGRESS.

A THOUSAND LEAVES
[2021]

This series takes its title from the tenth studio album by American rock band Sonic Youth, released on May 12, 1998, by DGC Records. It was the band's first album recorded at their own studio in Lower Manhattan. Since the band had an unlimited amount of time to work in their studio, this album features numerous lengthy and improvisational tracks that were developed unevenly. This group of images tries to recreate a kind of experimental narrative born from the accumulation of images, varying from portraits, to still-life and landscapes. This series was first shown at Galeria Pedro Oliveira in Porto.

THE SONIC BOOMS[2008]

THE SONIC BOOMS aims to portray a certain idea of an everlasting sense of youth and its rebellious streak through the mythology of music and its different cultural and social manifestations.  Published by Lebop as a limited edition book, it quickly sold out. This series has been exhibited at several different galleries and its format has been in constant mutation, from a regular exhibition to a live music performance.

THE IDEA OF SILENCE[2015]

All images were taken in Japan shortly after the 2011 tsunami. This tragical natural disaster severely crippled the infrastructure of the country. In addition to the thousands of destroyed homes, businesses, roads, and railways, the tsunami caused the meltdown of three nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This work is a reflection upon the poetic idea of the silence and calm after the storm. This work was published as a monograph by french publisher Editions Loco.

A BRIDGE

[2011]

A Bridge
is the first part of the Asian Trilogy entitled Far Far East. All images were taken in China as a result of an uncertain sense of wonder and curiosity upon the arrival in a distant country and trying to face and understand visually its culture. This work was first shown at Galeria da Faculdade de Arquitectura, Guimarães. It was published as a limited edition monograph by Lebop.
